SALT OF THE EARTH
This is something Mark has been wanting to do for several years and has now decided to make it a priority. His family are from the country, so he's always loved the the country and respected country people. Their kindness, generosity, sense of humour and stoicism.
They’re salt of the earth. People who face up to any hardship or difficulty with a laconic no fuss approach. At a time when so many make such a big deal of every small thing, they handle the big stuff with dignity, hard work and resolve...and then quietly move on.
I know that Mark really admires that. It has lovely echoes of another time in Australia, an anchor somehow to what we once were. And, in some places, still are.
You see, Salt Of The Earth people don’t allow themselves many luxuries. In fact, they don’t want them. But Mark would like them to have something just a bit special.
Having been a professional photographer most of his adult life, he deeply understands the power of a single photo..or a collection of photos.
Their unique ability to capture a moment that then endures for generations. Feelings and experiences captured at one specific time that can be remembered many years from now. Often by people who will know you only as a name on the family tree.
Mark wants to photograph you in your natural surrounds in a way that honours the unheralded work you do...and the way in which you do it.
That can’t happen if you come to his city studio, so he'll come to you!
This project will see Mark travelling to Queensland and parts of NSW that he has come to know and love. And he'll be bringing his cameras and would be delighted to add you to his collection of Salt Of The Earth people.
He shoots late in the day, last light and you and your family in your everyday working clothes. And he makes the pictures that he likes, to portray you his way.
A day or two later he will return to show you what he has achieved and you are then welcome to order your wall portrait for your home. In classic black and white, and finished in fine furniture finish timber framing, they will hang with pride in your home. Or if you prefer you can order the wall portraits as prints only and have them framed by you own local favourite framer.
There is no fee for the shoot and no obligation to purchase if you don't like or want a wall portrait.
